#19128By ashley on Saturday, January 20, 2007 - 1:16 am Im a christian girl, and i live with a sikh guy since past 2 years. We have a grate hidden relation. When we started the relation he told me that he`s going to marry the one whom his parents wil choose 4 him as he dont want to desepoint them, and then after a time he will divorce and will bring up our relation, but first he wants to make his parrents happy.Last days his parents found a girl for him,he told me,and i felt dessepointed,i told him that is not faire. He told his parrents that he dont wana marry her, cuz is not the proper time to get marry now.In the main time he appologise to me, he told me to forgive him ,he prommise not to marry that girl or any other girl and he took my hand in his and ask me to marry him, telling me that he`s going to mention my name to his parrents in the next days.I accepted, i feel happy, and guilty , because i did not wanted to put him to chosse in between me and his parents will, but i feel so happy that he choosed me. I am scared because i dont know if i will have to convert to his religion and ...how about the kids what we will have...will they have mine or his religion....i have nothing against his religion, but how will i go in front of my parents telling them that i am going to convert....and marry?im old enough but im still scared,is it the right choise?.The only question in my minde now is if it is right what i am doing, if is faire from my side to interfaire with his culture and parents, because making me happy will upsed them, and if we are together, my parents will have some objections as well, they will go on with it but they wont like the ideea.I love him alot and he also love me more then anything, and since he proposed me, he behave strange....menas he start calling me wife, he start talking about kids, about taking care of his parents.I want t hear a sikh person opinion pls. |

Hi there Ashley,
Sikhism is not a religion but a "way of life". It accepts all the prophets and holy people of the world as true including Jesus, Moses, Buddah, Krishna and of course the Sikh Gurus. If your boyfriend is a real Sikh he will tell his parents that he wants to marry to and he will be strong enough to deal with any disagreements between him and his parents. If he is a practicing Sikh then it would be ideal for both of you to adopt the same way of life and both follow the teachings of the great Sikh Gurus. But you must decide if Sikhism is a way of life for you. Your boyfriend can not decide that for you and neither can your parents. If you want to become a Sikh and you are unsure how to tell your parents then pray to God and ask God to help you, to help your parents understand your decision. Tell your parents about the similarities of the Sikh Gurus and Lord Jesus including the teachings of humility, love for all, charity, service to humanity etc. Guru Nanak Dev Ji is considered by some people to be the second coming of Christ. I hope this helps. Last edited by marriagepartner : 07-29-2007 at 09:32 AM. Reason: Pl do not post any links. |
