As a Uk citizen, I married a USA citizen for nothing more than love. Neither of us are well off or ever have been. I don't want to live in USA, I had a higher standard of living in UK but due to the fees due for all the documents, as parents of a 2 yr old child, we do not have almost $1000 lying around. I work illegally as I can't afford to file all the papers which have to be filed at once if I understand correctly. It's unfair, I am only here because I fell in love with an American. I don't want to live anywhere, where I am denied healthcare because I can't afford it. I would like to go home but if I do, I can't return with my husband and daugher to visit grandparents and other family.
Dear San
It is bit tragic that there are so many rules and high processing fees. If you notice it is becoming a trend now even for visas anywhere.
You could have solicited a permanent residence that allows a foreign spouse to work and live "legally".
Your comment about quality of life is quite valid. The U.S. quality of life is a mirage and hardly a reality. If one needs to maintain the so called quality at a crushing cost it is much wiser to live in another country.
Frankly living anywhere in EU is many times more fulfilling and enriching than in the US of 21st century. No wonder large number of North Americans are moving to Latin American and farther places.

My situation is one of very unique circumstance. The thought of being away from my Filipina girlfriend for more than a year is devastating, and I know nothing of the visa process. I know I get SSDI and if I marry I lose it. I just see her coming here to marry me being a big problem, but it shouldn't. I don't care about that. I will gladly lose my livelihood to be with her, besides here in America she would make a lot of money. Her english is flawless, her degree is in communications. She is educated and very intelligent. Seems to me like her coming here to be with me is good for everyone including my great country, but I fear things will be made difficult based on my unique circumstance.
At this point I am even considering looking into moving to Philippines and living with her until we can both make it here. My body might be somewhat broken but my mind is not. I am a wise man, and I have found my equal. Now I must figure out the best way to be with my love. This situation is complex, so any good advice is greatly appreciated.
Ed
What is your unique situation?
If you have a genuine relation there should not be a problem.
You may solicit for a K visa and it does not take that long.

I am an Indian citizen wanting to marry my gf who is a Romanian citizen. We met over the internet. Presently, we have planned to register our marriage first in India and then solemnize it with the Romanian embassy in India. I am wondering if our case pertains to the Special Marriage Act or the Foreign MArriage Act. Please advise.

Hi Vivek,
Our Situation is identical! I am in love with a Romanian too. The only difference in our case now is that I am currently doing job in Malaysia on an Employment visa and this October she will be coming down to Malaysia to live with me.
I am also searching for options to get married. I inquired the indian embassy here and they have mentioned some complex requirements.
My g/f is from bucharest. She has visited india twice since 2005. This year she met my family and now every one has accepted this relationship. We intend to marry in Malaysia and she will try to get a job here in Malaysia.
take care

Hello
I am a self employed software developer currently residing in Bangalore.
I am in love with a girl from Romania and we wish to get married.
Eventually we wish to settle in her country, so the easiest and quickest visa process for me would be to get married legally to her here.Otherwise it involves two to and fro trips for me to Romania and much expense and intermediate waiting, to get married in their legal system.
With that in mind, she has decided to make the trip here so we can be married.
By birth I am a Hindu and she is a orthodox Christian.I have read and reread the marriage acts, but I cannot find out any information about foreing nationals getting married to Indians.
I believe I have several options ( all of which have a lot of hassles )
1) I apply for registration under Special marriage act : This impossible as she can only get a leave and visa for 28 days so the question of providing a notice 30 days before hand is impossible unless some way is possible of specifying that the both parties need not be present physically.
2) Hindu marriage : She is willing to convert to Hindu religion in order to marry, but so far when I contacted Arya Samaj with the query, they have not been very keen on religious conversion for marriage's sake.
3) Christian marriage : I would be baptized to convert to a christian and we could be married in a church, again I'm not sure about the rules and regulations wrt the notice being filed etc.
4) We could get married in the Romanian embassy, but I have only now applied for a passport ( I have not been living in an adress permanently , so there are problems with that too ) and there are many trips required to the embassy in Delhi.
5) I have heard that the Goanese follow a different law and its much more easy.Would it be possible for a non-Goanese to marry a foreigner there under such laws?
All the problem is because she can be here in India from September 4th to October 1st only , for which she is able to obtain a Visa.
Is it possible to apply for a marriage in court or appeal somewhere so that the process need not go through the 30 days period?
I would spare no expense if it could be done in any possible way and I have a valid marriage certificate in hand by the 10th September.
What option do I have?
Do all the thick lawbooks make no allowance for the fact that two people may be in love and that in the end thats all that really matters in this world?

I would like some feedback; in reference to an older woman, 55 years, a younger man, 39 years, and the difference in their ages. The Nigerian man who is living in Germany and the female who is residing in the United States, being so far away from each other and only communicating by phone and e-mails? Thanks

To soofi pakistani guy
Your desire to immigrate and to work in uk or us and using a marriage to someone is pathetic, cheap and very bad idea. You must not marry someone for immigrating. This is immoral and unlawful. There are thousands of cases in the UK and the US where people like you have destroyed lives of local residents. These cases are documented and the sad stories linger for long time.
